I have been a landlord for 15 years, and for the past six years I have helped hundreds of landlords as a member of the Board of Directors of one of the largest landlord advocacy organizations in Ontario.
What I have learned is that the best defence is a good offence. There are at least 600,000 investors in Ontario, plus Realtors and Property Managers — and we all need to understand how to protect our investments and the clients we represent. Non-payment of rent can cost investors stress, thousands of dollars, and their health.

Speaking up for Ontario’s small landlords
Rose Marie is Chair of Small Ownership Landlords of Ontario (SOLO), a volunteer, non-profit group that advocates for small landlords and counts roughly 8,500 vetted landlords. She speaks regularly in the news about Landlord and Tenant Board delays, rent arrears, and why careful tenant screening matters.
On the podcast: 13 Months Without Rent
Rose joined Erwin Szeto on The Truth About Financial Independence for Canadians (October 2026) to talk through tenant screening, Landlord and Tenant Board procedures, rent arrears and collections. Watch the episode on YouTube, or play it on our home page.
